Gordon and Moggie's 1,000 mile farewell to Exeter and Honiton charity

The chairman of disability charity SeeAbility was at the wheel of a 55-year-old Morris Minor in Exeter and Honiton on 6 September to bid farewell to old friends.

Gordon Ilett is making a 1,000 mile tour of SeeAbility locations across southern England to mark the end of his term as chairman of the charity, which supports people with learning disabilities and autism, who may also have sight loss.

Gordon said: “I want to visit as many of the people we support as possible to thank them and the staff teams for making SeeAbility such a great charity.”

Honiton gymnasts returned from last weekend's National Acrobatic Gymnastics Finals in Stoke-on-Trent with three bronze medals.

The podium places were achieved by Jessica Treen, Hollie Moulton and Olivia Wotton in International Development Plan 2 (IDP 2) women's groups; Coen Cooke and Oscar Felice in Youth Men's Pairs; and Clark Burnett and Thomas Berry in Grade 4 Men's Pairs.

Honiton to welcome pioneering boatbuilders working on the UK’s first electric workboat

A pioneering boatbuilding firm is relocating to East Devon to manufacture components for the UK’s first fully electric workboat and charging station, in a move which will secure 30 local jobs.

Coastal Workboats Limited (CWL) will be building their new HQ and advanced manufacturing site at Honiton’s Heathpark Industrial Estate. The move, which supports East Devon District Council’s ambitions to address the climate emergency by promoting clean growth, was guided by EDDC's Economic Development team.

Taste East Devon is gearing up for a crowd-pulling 16-day festival to showcase the region’s food and drink scene with its sponsors steering success for another year. Honiton cat volunteers celebrate farm free of feral kittens

A group of cat volunteers are celebrating the successful homing of the final group of kittens from a farm near Honiton.

Cats Protection’s Honiton Branch had a busy year, rehoming more than 40 cats during 2021 and neutering 163 cats by October. However, it has been the most recent humane trapping of a pregnant female cat at a farm outside Monkton that has been cause for most celebration.

Exeter mum's crochet challenge keeps Honiton-based Devon Freewheelers blood bike on the road for 1,000 miles

An Exeter mum’s festive challenge to make a charity Christmas mascot for the Devon Freewheelers, based in Honiton, will fuel a blood bike for 1,000 miles.

Tammy Tudor, of Beacon Heath, Exeter, raised £140 by crocheting Christmas coats for teddy bears for the charity to sell at fundraising events.

People with dementia have been particularly hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic. In East Devon, new funding from South West Water is enabling Dementia Friendly Honiton to help more people to find out about the fantastic initiatives it offers in the region.

Last weekend, four Honiton gymnasts took part in the global Acrobatic Blocks Competition (ABC) where they performed virtual handstand events against some of the best acrobatic gymnasts and circus performers in the world.
