Devon and Cornwall Police has donated £2,500 to Mid Devon District Council in an initiative that will see an upgrade to Tiverton town’s CCTV system.
There are currently sixteen CCTV cameras plotted around the town centre and it is hoped that this will be increased by a further two. Images from each camera are sent via a fibre optic cable to the CCTV operating room and recorded on a digital video recorder which can be used in criminal investigations. Four men were spotted on CCTV allegedly attempting to break into the premises in Yeoford Way, Marsh Barton at around 2.40am
The men allegedly climbed the security gate and attempted to break into a shipping container at the rear of the premises.

Two women who died in a coach in Cornwall have been named locally as Margaret Luxton and Carol Mundoon. The women died when the coach they were travelling in hit a wall on the A387 near Looe on Tuesday 13 May. 13 people were hospitalised by injuries received in the crash but have now been discharged. Others with minor injuries were assessed and treated by paramedics at the scene. The coach was hired for a trip organised by Exmouth Age Concern.
