Valuable jewellery taken in Exeter burglary

Police are appealing for information following a burglary at a house in Whitestone, Exeter. The incident took place between 8.30am and 4.05pm on Tuesday 26 February 2013.

Jewellery worth around £10,000 was taken, including wedding and engagement rings, necklaces, watches, cufflinks and earrings. Some of the items date back to the early 1900s.

A number of other items were taken including cash, purses and a mobile phone. The property was entered through the garage and a doubled glazed window after the suspects forced entry.

Car set alight in Plymouth

Police are investigating after a car was deliberately set on fire in a Plymouth pub car park. An unknown accelerant was poured over the front of the black Seat Ibiza Cupra and the vehicle set alight. The bonnet and the front inside of the vehicle were burnt out and the windscreen destroyed. The car was parked at the Windmill Inn at Leigham when the attack happened some time between 9am on Sunday 3 March and 3am on Monday 4 March. Police are treating the incident as arson and are appealing to anyone who has information to contact them on 101, quoting crime reference EL/13/876.

Prank puts lives at risk in Honiton

Offenders put the lives of police officers at risk by tampering with road signs on a blind bend near Honiton. The culprits dragged two large temporary triangular warning signs and sandbags into the middle of the A30 near Yarcombe in the early hours of Saturday (2 March). The signs had been by the side of the road on a blind bend in a wooded area at Hilltop. A police unit and ambulance on a 999 call to help a person with medical difficulties had to take emergency action to avoid a collision. Absconder from Lincolnshire prison thought to be in the South West

Police are appealing for information to trace a man who has absconded from prison and may be in the Devon and Cornwall area. John Loveridge, 28, was sentenced to five years in prison in 2011 for offences including burglary and theft. He absconded from HMP North Sea Camp in Lincolnshire on Monday 11 February. It is believed that Loveridge may be in Somerset, Devon or Cornwall and members of the public are asked to remain vigilant. Police appeal after four-vehicle collision near Tavistock

Police are appealing for information following a four-vehicle collision near Tavistock which left three people injured. The collision happened on the A386 near Grenofen around 6pm on Wednesday (27 February). A silver Ford Focus travelling towards Tavistock was in collision with a Nissan Almera and a DAF HGV travelling in the opposite direction. As a result a fourth vehicle, a black BMW also heading to Tavistock, was in collision with the Nissan Almera. Police are appealing for information following a serious collision in Exeter which left a man in a critical condition. The 49-year-old man suffered serious head injuries after falling from a moving vehicle, possibly a taxi, at Westpoint last night (28 February). The incident happened around 10.25pm when a man got into what is thought to be a taxi, described as a black medium-sized people carrier with a sliding side door, possibly a Mercedes Vito. Police are appealing to the public for help following a string of shoplifting offences in Devon. The four offences, which police believe involve the same men, occurred on the same day, 1 February, at shops in Exmouth, Teignmouth, Paignton and Torquay. At the Co-op in Dartmouth Road, Paignton at noon two men entered the rear of the store and stole 27 cases of cigarettes, cigars and tobacco products and four cases of chewing gum, total value in excess of £2,000. Stolen silverware returned to St Michaels & All Angels in Otterton

A silver chalice and a silver wafer box have been returned to the church from where they were stolen at the end of January 2013. The theft happened between 20 and 24 January at the Church of St Michaels & All Angels in Otterton, East Devon. Two other chalices, a Grimaldi and a Philips, were also stolen from the vestry at the time and these have yet to be recovered. The returned chalices were left in Colaton Raleigh church sometime before 23 February 2013. Car collides with horse on the A380 on Telegraph Hill

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue were called to a road traffic collision on the A380, Telegraph Hill near to Ideford this morning.

One fire appliance was despatched to the incident from Exeter Danes Castle and one from Exeter Middlemoor.

On arrival crews found a single vehicle that had been involved in a collision with a horse. Fire crews report that nobody was trapped within the vehicle. Several horses were on the carriageway and were being looked after by police, whilst the casualties were being cared for by paramedics.
