Police investigating the Christmas Day burglary at Bridgetown Post Office, Totnes, are appealing for information about a wooden post that was left at the scene. The post was marked Torbay Totnes Trail, John Musgrave Trail, and County Road, Devon County Council. Officers hope that someone who regularly walks the trail may be able to pinpoint where the sign was taken from.
A 4-wheel drive vehicle was used to smash a window in the premises and the suspects made off in a Subaru. The Subaru later crashed on the A381 and one of the occupants, a 25-year-old man was arrested.

Police are appealing for information after a number of items of jewellery were taken in a burglary in Sampford Peverell, near Tiverton.
The house in Higher Town was broken into between 11am on Friday 21 December and 2.30pm on Wednesday 26 December. The occupants are a couple in their 60s.
A number of items were stolen including a valuable 18-carat gold ladies ring with rubies and diamonds, several other gold and silver rings and a Panasonic 26in flat screen TV.

Landowners, farmers and businesses across Devon and Cornwall are joining forces with the police to host two major events aimed at combating rural crime.
The events, titled ‘Preventing Crime in Rural Communities' take place in February and bring together representatives of the Country Land and Business Association, the National Farmers’ Union and the Devon and Cornwall Police along with experts from private security firms and specialist equipment suppliers who will all be looking at the ways and means of preventing crime in rural communities.
A nataional newspaper has claimed that more than 23,000 police officers and staff have second jobs, ranging from a pole-dancing teacher and a priest.
The figures, revealed in a study by the Mail on Sunday of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary data, found that at least 23,043 police staff had second jobs out of a workforce of 201,575 in May 2012.
That was up 19 per cent from March 2011 figures, which showed 19,329 had second jobs.
