She undertook an apprenticeship with HIT Training, successfully completing Levels 2 and 3. Before joining The Volunteer Inn, she had stints as a chef at a variety of establishments including The Greyhound in Fenny Bridges,...

When you ask a server in a restaurant where the scampi is from and you are given what amounts to a postcode, you know they know their stuff.

I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of Rockfish in Exeter which, when it comes to the dining experience, (and here's the pun) is the plaice to be!

We were served with an array of delightful dishes including, spider crab croquettes, ceviche sardines, cuttlefish, oysters and scampi.

When the scampi tray came around, I was informed by the server that they would be the tastiest and juiciest I had ever experienced....

As this is a restaurant review you would be forgiven for thinking that I would start with the food.

That, of course, makes perfect sense but what is put on your plate does not a meal-eth make.

The ambience, the décor, the music can all make or break a dining experience, but one of the biggest influences for me is the staff.

And that is a big concern for a lot of restaurant owners in Exeter… because there just isn’t enough talent to go around.

Having knowledge of just how difficult recruitment currently is made our visit to the city’s newest eaterie, Poh,...

I was delighted to be asked to write a review of the new Spring Menu for the Bistro du Vin at the Hotel du Vin in Exeter.

I had only visited the hotel on one occasion for drinks and was pleasantly surprised by the light and airy bistro setting with views over the gardens.

The sun put in an appearance for our visit and as we sat by the large windows we were bathed in sunshine which added to the whole experience.

We were warmly welcomed at the hotel and were informed that in the next 12 months the whole hotel would be undergoing a major refurbishment in line with all...
