Cllr Susan Griggs, the Mayor of Tiverton attended an evening event to celebrate the completion of the new £1.8m extension to Clare House Surgery located in Newport Street, Tiverton. The substantial building programme which has significantly increased the size of the surgery was overseen by lead consultants Haldons Limited and built by contractors Morgan Sindall. Tiverton Jobs Fair

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, is holding the Mid Devon Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair on Friday 4th October at Tiverton High School in association with the National Apprenticeship Service and Jobs Centre Plus. The Jobs fair will help school leavers and job seekers find work and get careers advice to give young people the experience and skills they need to enter the workplace.

It follows a hugely successful Jobs Fair held in Honiton organised by Neil Parish earlier this year.

Uffculme Co-opeative reopens this week

The Co-operative food store in Uffculme, Cullompton, is set to re-open next week (Thursday, 2 October) following a near £200,000 investment to create a new shopping experience for the community.

The new-look store in The Square has been redefined with a new kiosk, an increased bakery range and, a focus on meal ideas, healthy, fresh and chilled foods and, essentials.

The store is also pioneering a new role, known as a Community Pioneer, with members of the food store team, Karen Clench and Rachael Margetts, also working to foster involvement in community activities.

The Big Draw comes to Knightshayes

This autumn, Knightshayes near Tiverton is taking part in the ‘The Big Draw’. This is the first time Knightshayes has been part of this national art project and staff and volunteers want to encourage everyone, whatever their artistic ability, to get creative and draw something special they love about Knightshayes. Appeal after woman is stabbed in Tiverton

In the early evening of 29th August police attended the Old Railway Line, Cowleymoor, Tiverton, following a report that a 27 year old female had been stabbed at that location by a male known to her.

The female is currently receiving treatment and her injuries are not life threatening. Enquiries are ongoing to locate the male. This was an incident between two people known to each other.

MP launches report on Religious Slaughter

Neil Parish, Member of Parliament for Tiverton and Honiton and Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Beef & Lamb has published a report into Meat Slaughtered in Accordance with Religious Rites.

The report follows an extensive inquiry in which evidence from a wide range of stakeholders from industry experts, Shechita UK, the Halal Food Authority, veterinary professionals as well as the Farming Minister George Eustice and the European Commission.

Boy, 11, seriously injured in collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a boy was seriously injured in a road traffic collision in Tiverton.

A car and lorry were involved in the collision that happened at around 5.50pm on the A361 eastbound near Gornhay Cross.

An 11-year-old boy, from the Tiverton area, was trapped in the car before being released by the fire service.

He was taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary by air ambulance with serious leg injuries.

The 46-year-old female driver of the purple Citroen Picasso, also from the Tiverton area, suffered minor injuries.

Quest for information about Old Blundells

Old Blundells in the centre of Tiverton needs local residents to help piece together missing fragments of its past history.

The garden of this former school, now owned by National Trust, has recently undergone restoration as part of a project to bring it back to life and, in order to share its past with the local community, the National Trust team hope to install information panels about the colourful people who once lived and worked there. However, they need the support of local people to fill in some gaps in the records.
