Fire Crews attend after fire at Tiverton pub

Fire crews were called to The Trout Inn, Tiverton, in the early hours of this morning due to a vehicle being on fire in the car park.

One appliance from Tiverton attended a car fire in the car park of the public house. The vehicle was well alight on their arrival and crews got to work using two breathing apparatus and two hosereel jets.

The vehicle was severely damaged.

The Police also attended and are now investigating the incident.

Spate of burglaries targeting businesses

Police in Devon are appealing for information following a spate of burglaries targeting commercial properties. The burglaries occurred at commercial premises in both Mid and East Devon between Thursday 16th January and Friday 31st January and it is suspected that a stolen vehicle on false number plates was used during the raids. The vehicle, a Toyota 4x4 Hilux was stolen from a driveway of a property in Chevithorne near Tiverton on Monday 13th January.

Thai restaurant opening in Tiverton

Rod and Tiwa Honour (pictured) are opening a new Thai restaurant in Tiverton.

Thai Home Catering, Bistro and Takeaway at 23 Gold Street will be open on Friday (14 February), and already has tables booked.

The bistro, which can seat up to 32 people, was previously a newsagents. It has been transformed over the last few weeks and is decorated with wallpaper specially sent over from Thailand.

Man arrested for Tiverton phoneshop burglary

An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a moible phone shop was burgled in Tiverton last week.

The Carphone Warehouse in Tiverton offered a £500 reward for information after a large number of phones were taken during the burglary. The shop was targeted by thieves in the early hours of Thursday 23 January 2014. Thieves gained entry to an empty property above the shop and broke through the floor into offices below. Two year old locked in house is rescued by fire service

Crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to rescue a two year old from a property in Tiverton this morning ( Tuesday 14th January).

One fire appliance from Tiverton attended a property in Oakfields where one two year old girl was locked in.

Crews used small tools to gain entry to the house and rescue the girl.

The incident took place at 9.40am.

Safety to be improved in Leat Street, Tiverton

A new zebra crossing is to be installed on the A3126 in Tiverton.

Work on the Devon County Council scheme, which will create a crossing at Leat Street, is due to start on Monday 13 January.

Crossing Leat Street is difficult for pedestrians at present, due to limited visibility of traffic exiting the roundabout with Kennedy Way.

The crossing is south of this roundabout and will provide a walking route linking the western area of Tiverton to the hospital, Tiverton High Street and Petroc Community College.

Child airlifted after M5 Crash

A child has been airlifted to Frenchay hospital in Bristol following an accident on the M5 near Tiverton.

The child was injured when the car he was travelling in left the slip road at junction 27 and overturned into a ditch.

Although hurt the child’s injuries were not life-threatening and no-one else in the vehicle was badly injured.

Devon and Somerset fire and Rescue confirmed that the car collided with the back of a heavy goods tanker before landing on its roof in the ditch.

The car had three children as passengers and all were assessed by ambulance crews...
