Preparations for Honiton’s exciting new Gate to Plate event, which is taking place on 18 July 2018 in the town’s high street, are well underway with over 43 of East Devon’s finest traders and food/craft producers already signed up to showcase a cornucopia of innovative, as well as traditional wares at this free to attend celebration of the district’s most outstanding businesses. All-female crew set for Pacific plastic pollution voyage

An all-female crew is set to embark on a mission across the Pacific to learn more about plastic pollution.

The eXXpedition North Pacific voyage will cross the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch”, densest ocean plastic zone on the planet.

With a range of skills, the team on the research vessel Sea Dragon will journey more than 3,000 nautical miles, studying micro-plastics and links to environmental and human health.

Christians in Exeter tune into innovative online prayer gathering

Christians across Exeter are invited to tune into a LIVE online prayer gathering – which is thought to be the first of its kind in the county.

The broadcast called ‘Devon Awake’ is expected to see over one thousand Christians log on from across the region and tune in to this innovative gathering which is being streamed on a dedicated event website.

Exeter churches are being encouraged to join in online and pray, as well as network with other Christians through an online chat platform which will be hosted by a team of Church Online Pastors.

Calling wildlife and countryside photographers

East Devon District Council has launched a competition to find the best photographs of the East Devon Countryside for the Wild East Devon 2019 calendar.

The competition opens on Sunday 1 July 2018 and entries can be sent until Friday 31 August.

All photographs must be taken in East Devon and can be of views, wildlife, wildflowers or trees.

Entrants can enter up to three of their best, high resolution photographs in the competition by emailing them to wild@eastdevon.gov.uk

SILVERTON’s summer bliss is set to be shattered as dark fairy tales take centre stage in the Mid Devon village.

Strange creatures, characters and much-loved names from the brothers Grimm will star in a series of stories performed outside by The Silverton Luvvies old and young – as a host of new stars will join the much loved troupe.

Using the backdrop of the village’s medieval church and performed in a magical garden, the 200-year-old German fairy tales will come alive for two nights this July as the players tackle a number of the well, and less well, known stories....

InExeter proud to host training courses for business members

Since January this year, InExeter has hosted 10 training courses for city centre businesses, with over 32 different businesses involved courses including Emergency First Aid, Food Catering, Customer Service and Social Media Training have been held to help support InExeter businesses.

RGB Building Supplies is delighted to announce it has won the Multiple Merchant of the Year (10-100 branches) category at the Builders Merchants Journal Industry Awards 2018 and is thanking those in the Exeter community who voted for them.

Packexe reaches solar energy milestone

Solar installations at Packexe Ltd in Marsh Barton have reached a significant milestone with their generation of more than 10,000 kilowatt hours of clean electricity in a single month.

May 2018 was a particularly sunny month in Exeter and for the very first time Packexe surpassed the 10,000 kwh energy production milestone.

Ten thousand kilowatt hours (or kWh) of clean energy production would offset about 4.49 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions and is enough to power a washing machine for 4,348 loads of washing.

Scams alert from Devon, Somerset and Torbay Trading Standards

Devon, Somerset and Torbay Trading Standards is issuing a warning for people to be aware of a spate of investment scams.

The Trading Standards service has received a number of complaints from people who have fallen for the scams, which claimed a high level of return for a minimal risk.

In fact, victims typically lost tens of thousands of pounds.

Trading Standards wants people to know that there are many types of investment scams to look out for, and that scams are continuously evolving.
