Four people who are rebuilding their lives after being homeless feature in a moving Exeter homelessness charity’s Christmas fundraising campaign.

The two-minute film focuses on the question of how it feels to be homeless, especially at Christmas. “They came along and lifted me up” is one of the many moving statements made in the video, that was launched across social and traditional media on Thursday morning (23 November).

Exeter Community Initiatives (ECI) and Exeter City Football Club Supporters’ Trust (ECFCST), have joined forces to launch a Secret Santa appeal.

The soaring cost-of-living has cast a shadow over many households this year, leaving families and individuals grappling with financial strains this Christmas.

Police are investigating a sexual assault that took place in Exeter over the weekend.

Officers are undertaking searches in the Ludwell Valley Park area of Exeter following a report of a sexual assault having taken place on the afternoon of Sunday 9 April.

Detective Superintendent Jon Bancroft said: “Officers remain in the area undertaking enquiries following the report of a sexual assault in the area, and a scene guard is in place within Ludwell Valley Park.

The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) is urgently appealing to the public to think carefully before dialling 999 due to the extreme demand it is currently facing following the four-day Christmas break.

At 11:30 on Wednesday 28 December there were 482 patients waiting for ambulances across the South West, with 106 patients awaiting handover at hospitals across the South West.

And SWASFT has today (Wednesday) declared a Critical Incident because the extreme pressures it is experiencing are affecting its ability to respond to patients.

Appeal after cyclist is seriously injured in Exeter collision

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a cyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car in Exeter on Friday 11 November.

The incident happened in Longbrook Street at around 1.15pm.

It involved a white-coloured car and a male riding a grey pedal cycle.

The cyclist sustained serious injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where his condition remains critical.

New plea on 25th anniversary of Kate Bushell's murder

Devon and Cornwall Police has renewed a public appeal for information to find the killer of Exwick schoolgirl Kate Bushell who was murdered 25 years ago this week.

Kate was killed on Saturday 15 November 1997 as she walked a neighbour’s dog near her home. Her body was found in a field off Exwick Lane in Exwick by her father. She had died from a savage knife wound to her throat.

On the 25th anniversary of her death, detectives remain convinced that someone holds the final clue to bring Kate’s killer to justice and are urging them to finally break their silence.

Police appeal after large scale altercation in Exeter

Devon and Cornwall Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a large altercation in Exeter over the weekend that resulted in one person being hospitalised.

Police were called just after 1.30am on Sunday 23 October following reports of a large altercation involving around 30 people in the Guildhall area of Exeter City Centre.

Following this incident, a man was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with facial injuries.

It happened at Exeter Fried Chicken, St Thomas Centre, Cowick Street, between 1.30am and 1.40am on Monday 4 July.

Tilia Homes’ Western region has delivered 75 gifts to Salvation Army centres in the south west, as part of the charity’s Christmas Present Appeal.

The Exeter-based business brought together its employees, contractors, and home buyers to donate toys to the appeal, which Tilia Homes collected at its development sales offices and delivered to its nearest Salvation Army centres. Tilia Homes Western Region has also bolstered the collection of gifts by donating an additional £500 to the charity to support their causes throughout the year.
