Exeter City Council’s Chief Executive and Growth Director has thanked all staff who played a part in Thursday's local elections in the city.

Karime Hassan praised all those involved – some 500 people - in organising the elections, in the lead-up, during the day itself and at the count on the night.

“It is a massive undertaking and I can’t thank everyone enough for their efforts. This is local democracy at work and without the dedication of scores of City Council staff and many others, it just wouldn’t happen,” he said.

In Exeter, just over a third of the electorate...

How to make new friends as an adult

Making new friends can be much harder when you are an adult. It is easy to make friends when you are a child and teenager but this all changes once you start to work full-time and have long-term relationships. Additionally, if you move to a new area or go through a breakup, you may find that you suddenly have much fewer people to socialise with which can be difficult. Fortunately, it is possible to make new friends when you are an adult if you know how and if you are willing to put yourself out there. Here are a few ways to try if you are looking to make new friends.

No fish please, we're millennials!

Recent research from the national body, Seafish, has uncovered that millennials eat 50% less fish than their grandparent’s generation. Are we surprised at this? The British tend to eat most of their fish fried, unlike their continental European neighbours who eat more grilled or simply cooked seafood. Restaurant owner and seafood chef Mitch Tonks has seen this himself and puts it partly down to there being very little for customers between fine dining seafood and traditional chippies and an increasing awareness but lack of information regarding sustainability.

Mitch, who has the...
