Exeter community driving movement to be launched by May

A new movement to slash vehicle emissions through the actions of drivers, rather than government policy, is being pioneered in Exeter by connected car technology developer Lightfoot – makers of the world’s first technology to reward better drivers. The company is investing over half a million pounds in Breathe Exeter, a radical new initiative, which aims to remove the equivalent of 1,000 cars’ worth of emissions from the city’s air by the end of the year, simply by changing the way motorists drive their vehicles.

Exeter Beats announces a star DJ line-up of Nick Grimshaw, Scott Mills and DJ Kristian Nairn to take over Exeter Castle’s courtyard during the three-night festival. Exeter Beats is part of the award-winning Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink which is back for its 16th consecutive year on the May Day Bank Holiday.

Gas investment scheme to start in Exeter

Wales & West Utilities is to start work next month to upgrade the local gas network.

The company will be investing £39,000 to upgrade old metal pipes to new plastic ones in the Exwick Road area of the city. Starting on 8 April, the work is essentialto keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses so that people are kept safe and warm for generations to come. Barring any engineering difficulties it is expected to be complete by the end of August.

Traveling around Europe in search of a new home after the dissolution of the monasteries must have been dramatic enough for England’s oldest community of Bridgettine nuns. But a remarkable newly-catalogued letter shows they also experienced another harrowing event – the Great Lisbon Earthquake of 1755.

Appearing on national television, Snooker player Rebecca Kenna spoke out on sexual inequality in the game.
