Families flocked to Newton Abbot Racecourse on Sunday (21 July) where kids were entertained not only by top action on the track, but by a new interactive ‘Kids love the Races’ roadshow designed to entertain and engage children in the sport.
Here, budding young jockeys enjoyed finding out more about the equine and human stars of the sport, designing their own racing silks and taking a look at some specialist racing equipment. They also got to check out what racehorses eat to keep them in tip-top condition and learnt about what happens at the track.
Exeter Golf and Country Club has submitted a planning application to Exeter City Council for high safety netting around part of its boundary.
A development of around 25 new houses, called Great Woodcote Park, are being built by Charles Church, which is part of the Persimmon group, on a section of the golf course boundary.
The Club has been advised by two separate specialist golf architects that the houses are sited too close to the boundary, increasing the risk of golf balls leaving the course and causing injury or damage.

'The Guardian' reported at the beginning of the month that the rise in temperature has seen a rise in retail sales. Playsuits, shorts and bikinis are finally being sold after sitting on the shelves during the previous cold months....
On 19 July at 3pm, Brixham coastguard tasked the charity’s inshore lifeboat, George Bearman after a call from a member of the public. A dog had fallen from a cliff, close to the Geoneedle at Orcombe point.
Missy, a black spaniel was on a walk with her owner’s relative when she ran towards the cliff edge. Missy, who was on holiday from Leicestershire, fell 50m onto the sandy beach below as high tide was approaching. RNLI crew volunteers Scott Ranft, Roger Jackson and Helmsman, Ian Taylor located the dog within six minutes after launching.
