Dancing in the Streets, it’s bigger, it’s better, it’s back!

Dancing in the Streets Festival 2013 is back and ready to rumble! With talented local performers from dancers and singers to comedians and live music, Saturday 8 until Sunday 9 of June is set to rock the very heart of Exeter’s shopping capital, Princesshay.

The festival, now in its fourth year, was the first of its kind in Exeter and launched the now very popular community event space in Princesshay Square.

Rachel Lyons looks forward to her year ahead as Lord Mayor of Exeter

Labour City Councillor Rachel Lyons (Polsloe ward), will today (14 May) officially take over from Councillor Rob Newby as the Lord Mayor of Exeter at the Annual General Meeting of the City Council.

Cllr Lyons, a previous Deputy Lord Mayor, will be assisted in the role by Deputy Lord Mayor and fellow Labour councillor Rob Hannaford, who serves as both City Councillor for St Thomas and County Councillor for Exwick/St Thomas and is the present City Council portfolio holder for Housing and Community Involvement.

Exeter's restaurant trade is booming, thanks to local support

Despite ongoing fears of a triple dip recession, confidence in the restaurant sector remains healthy and, according to the Deloitte Consumer Tracker Report released at the end of last year, not only are consumers eating out more often, but spending more when they do (compared to the average spend during 2012) and our love affair with dining out is set to continue in 2013.

Stimulate local economies by unlocking unused heritage

Today, as the first comprehensive analysis of how the UK’s historic buildings are used by businesses is published, the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has launched Heritage Enterprise, a pioneering new funding programme designed to stimulate local economic growth by unlocking the commercial potential of unused historic buildings and sites.

Exeter City are issuing a call to arms to supporters for the final home game of the season, as Cheltenham visit St James Park on Saturday 20 April (kick-off 3pm) – and are inviting the fans to come and celebrate the announcement of their nominated Player of the Year for the 2012/13 season. With the Grecians still in the running for a play-off spot, the club are asking as many supporters to come and contribute to an electric atmosphere at the final home game of the season. Devon Libraries shortlisted for prestigious national award

Devon County Council’s Library Service has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The service is one of only seven from across the UK to be selected for the coveted Library of the Year accolade at the forthcoming Bookseller Industry Awards.

Seaton swimming pool to make a splash this summer

Seaton Primary School's swimming pool will soon be open for anyone to use, thanks in part to East Devon District Council.

Over the past two years the pool has been given a thorough makeover. The old outdoor pool has been covered over with a structure that can be opened up in good weather, changing rooms and showers have been added and there is now access from the Elizabeth Road playing fields.

ECTA becomes ExeAccess and launches Four Rs re-cycling project

From today (Monday 8 April), Exeter Community Transport Association (ECTA) will be known as ExeAccess. This title will better describe the work the charity does of providing disabled people with access to Exeter.
