Police investigate unexplained death in Sidmouth

Police are currently investigating an unexplained death in Sidmouth. Officers were called at around 1.30pm today (9 July) after reports that a member of the public had found the body of a woman on the beach, approximately half a mile from Jacobs Ladder. Along with police, the Sidmouth lifeboat, Coastguard and paramedics were called to the area. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Police appeal for witnesses after Barnstaple man assaulted near Crediton railway station

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault near Crediton railway station which left a man with a serious injury. The victim approached the male suspect and was lured into the bushes in Station Road, where he was hit over the head with an unknown weapon. The victim, in his 50s and from Barnstaple, sustained a deep cut to his head which required stitches. Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault which happened around 9pm on Wednesday 26 June. Anyone who can help is asked to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference KC/13/486.

Missing teenager from Newton Abbot area found safe and well

Update 9 July: Charleigh has been found safe and well in the Bristol area. The Police thanked the media for their help in locating her.

Forces in the South West join the National Police Air Service

Today (Wednesday 3 July), Devon and Cornwall, Avon and Somerset, Dorset and Gloucestershire Police join the National Police Air Service (NPAS). This is the fourth phase of implementation since the launch of NPAS on 1st October 2012. The remaining police forces in England and Wales will join NPAS by January 2015.

The focus of NPAS is to deliver a more cost effective service, balancing the need to save money in a challenging economic environment against the need to ensure the police have a quickly deployable asset that can be used to tackle crime and protect the public.

Baby boy delivered by 'C-Section'

The birth of a newborn baby outside a Cornish police station has given new meaning to the phrase “delivered by C-Section.”

The little boy was brought into the world outside Camborne station by a group of police response officers from the locally-based C-Section.

The special delivery took place in the early hours of Friday 21 June 2013 when the on-duty officers heard a woman screaming outside the station at around 5.45am.

On investigation, they found 28-year-old Kristina Kacorri in the final stages of labour, accompanied by her husband Max.

Torpoint man saved by fire service after trying to set himself alight

Devon & Cornwall Police say that they received a call from the fire service shortly before 3am on Monday 24 June, with a report that a man in Torpoint had doused himself in petrol.

On arrival at the scene, they found a man holding a petrol can and the property from the outside smelt strongly of petrol.

Police and fire then attempted to engage with the man, who began setting fire to items within the house.

Police report that the fire service then took action and flooded the house with water and gained entry.

Boy airlifted to hospital after colliding with a car on Alphington Road

Update 23 June: Exeter Police report have provided further details on the collision that occurred at approximately 5pm on Saturday 22 June 2013 between a Nissan Skyline and a 12-year-old boy on his bicycle on Alphington Road.

A police spokesman said: "The Nissan Skyline, driven by a 29-year-old local man, was travelling outbound from the city centre towards the Marsh Barton turning. The bicycle ridden by a 12-year-old local boy was using the dedicated cycle lane and was also heading outbound in the same direction as the Nissan.

Devon and Cornwall Police’s newest puppy recruits can be seen live over the internet.

For the first time ever the dog section has bred its own litter of pups from an existing police dog and the force is streaming the dogs’ welfare live over the web.

Police German Shepherd ‘Ruby’ gave birth to the litter of pups early in the morning of Monday 3 June.

It is hoped that when they are old enough they will be able to be trained up as police dogs for the Force.

Two injured following serious road traffic collision near Honiton

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious road traffic collision near Honiton, which left two people injured. Officers were called to the A303 at Marsh at 6.25pm yesterday (5 June) after a Ford Focus C-Max car was in collision with a parked and unattended Honda CRV. The female passenger of the Focus, a 73-year-old woman from Exmouth, sustained serious multiple injuries and was flown by air ambulance to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.
