Kick It Out’s Raise Your Game series concluded in Devon as the University of Exeter played host to a dedicated day of mentoring and coaching.

Ashfords staff complete five-day cycle marathon for charity

Scores of Ashfords' solicitors swapped their briefs for cycling shorts to support a five-day cycling marathon in aid of their chosen charity, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust. More than 120 members of staff took part in a cyclathon on static bikes and managed to achieve a total of 1,678 miles between them - the equivalent of cycling from Exeter to Casablanca! Exeter residents urged to take a step for Fairtrade

Fairtrade Fortnight is now under way and runs through to Sunday 10 March.

The main event in Exeter will be a Fairtrade Tasting Market on Saturday 2 March from 10am-2.30pm in Bedford Square.

Oxfam will be joined at the market by the Co-operative and Sainsbury’s, who have Fairtrade products on display from the range in their stores and samples to taste. They will be encouraging people to ‘Take a Step for Fairtrade’ and switch their shopping to buy Fairtrade products.

Exeter St James Neighbourhood Plan leads the way

People living in St James, Exeter, have taken another step towards gaining a more hands-on role in the planning of their neighbourhood.

The Exeter St James Neighbourhood Plan examiner’s report was received on 15 February and is only the second in the country to reach this stage. The good news for the St James Forum and for Exeter City Council is that the report concludes, with a few minor modifications, the Plan should now proceed to a referendum.

Princesshay has introduced Braille menus into its restaurants and cafes to show support for Princesshay’s new charity of the year for 2013, WESC Foundation: The specialist centre for visual impairment.

The new initiative aims to help Princesshay restaurants alleviate the issues faced by blind or partially sighted people when choosing what to order.

The Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education has responded to the news that one of its catering suppliers, Sodexo, has found traces of horse meat in one of its frozen beef products, by saying: "Of the 80 products recalled as a precaution by Sodexo, the Deaf Academy only uses four, and we have immediately removed them from our kitchens.

Devon-based Gregory Distribution announces purchase of Philson Haulage

Gregory Distribution (Holdings) Ltd, the parent company of Gregory Distribution Ltd, has purchased Philson Haulage Ltd from its owners, Phil and Sonia Dickinson for an undisclosed sum.

Philson Haulage is a southern-based transport and distribution business with a turnover of around £7 million and employs 56 people at its base in Chichester. It was founded in 1995 by Phil and Sonia and has successfully developed a strong reputation for service and reliability within the fresh produce distribution sector during the past 17 years.
