Exeter care home wrapped in 420m scarf to raise awareness of Lewy body dementia

Following the success of A Scarf for Lewy (in which a 1600-metre/one mile scarf was wrapped seven times around the entire circumference of the Royal Albert Hall in London), a special event took place at Green Tree Court Care Home in Exeter last week (3rd November).

Green Tree Court played a crucial role in the project, acting as the delivery hub for over 1000 scarves that were sent from all round the UK and further afield such as the USA and Ireland. Dozens of parcels arrived each week for several months.

Cumberland Grange Care Home in Exeter have recently teamed up with Luscombe Drinks in Devon to put together some wonderful hampers for Silver Sunday which took place on Sunday 2nd of October.

Silver Sunday is a National Day which aims to combat loneliness and isolation in local communities. There are many things which people of all generations can do by coming together to offer support and company as well as by hosting fun and free activities for older people.

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Cumberland Grange Care Home in Exeter are over the moon because their much-loved Managing Director, Natasha Lazovic, has reached the final of the Social Care Leadership Awards 2022. She has been shortlisted in the prestigious Executive Care Home Leader category.

The Lord Mayor of Exeter begun visiting care homes across the city last week to allow residents to sign books of condolence to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. She started with a visit to Cumberland Grange.

Barchester’s Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter invited the local community and their pooches into their home to celebrate National Dog Day on August 25th, without a doubt one of the best days of the year!

Residents and staff put together Doggy Party Bags which included a variety of yummy treats and tennis balls, and the Chef made some delicious cakes and biscuits for the humans. Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together on July 30th at Cumberland Grange Care Home in Exeter to enjoy a Charity Summer Fete held in the home’s grounds to help raise money for the RD&E Hospital Charity – The Starfish Appeal.

Perfectly timed in the middle of a heatwave, staff and residents at Barchester’s Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter had a fantastic time celebrating National Ice Cream Day on July 17, a brilliant excuse to sample lots of cooling treats.

Overseen by Activities Co-Ordinator Gosia, staff and residents experimented with many different types of toppings and flavour combinations, from the exotic, to the alcoholic, and back to the traditional – sorbets, frozen yoghurt and good old dairy-based ice cream, they tasted and savoured them all.

Exeter care home is rooting for the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative

Residents at Cumberland Grange Care Home in Exeter have been branching out in support of the Queen’s Green Canopy, a unique tree planting campaign to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) invites the nation to ‘plant a tree for the Jubilee’ to create a legacy in honour of the Queen’s reign that will benefit future generations. As well as planting new trees, the QGC will dedicate a network of 70 ancient woodlands across the UK and identify 70 ancient trees to celebrate her 70 years of service.

Exeter care home starts sunflower growing competition

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter got their hands dirty as they planted a number of sunflower seeds, ready to start a sunflower competition.

As we start to enjoy all that spring has to offer, with daffodils and tulips making an appearance in the garden, staff and residents plan to plant lots more flowers, herbs and vegetables to bring the garden to life. But for now, we start with sunflowers!
