Following the success of A Scarf for Lewy (in which a 1600-metre/one mile scarf was wrapped seven times around the entire circumference of the Royal Albert Hall in London), a special event took place at Green Tree Court Care Home in Exeter last week (3rd November).
Green Tree Court played a crucial role in the project, acting as the delivery hub for over 1000 scarves that were sent from all round the UK and further afield such as the USA and Ireland. Dozens of parcels arrived each week for several months.

Residents and staff put together Doggy Party Bags which included a variety of yummy treats and tennis balls, and the Chef made some delicious cakes and biscuits for the humans. The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) invites the nation to ‘plant a tree for the Jubilee’ to create a legacy in honour of the Queen’s reign that will benefit future generations. Staff and residents at Barchester’s Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter got their hands dirty as they planted a number of sunflower seeds, ready to start a sunflower competition.
As we start to enjoy all that spring has to offer, with daffodils and tulips making an appearance in the garden, staff and residents plan to plant lots more flowers, herbs and vegetables to bring the garden to life. But for now, we start with sunflowers!
Residents have name tagged their own sunflower pots and wait patiently for them to start growing.
