The charity team at Otter Nurseries in Ottery St Mary has announced this year’s charity partnership with the Baton.

The Baton is run by Alan Rowe, well known in the area for his charity work. Alan founded the organisation to raise awareness of life in the British Armed Forces and ensure ex forces personnel are given the right support when they return to civilian life. The Baton also offers practical support to those in need, on a case by case basis.

A total of 369 men have already signed up for next month’s Hospiscare Men’s Walk starting at Exeter’s Double Locks pub and finishing with a FREE pint and a pasty.

“This is a great start and we’re hoping many more will join us for a walk along the canal and then watch the Six Nations England v Wales on huge LED screens in the Hospiscare bar, relaxing with a pint and a pasty,” said main sponsor Roger Wilkinson of Wilkinson Grant & Co.

£310,686 committed to cancer care in Devon

As 2016 gets underway, a local fundraiser is sending out a message of thanks to all who raised funds for Macmillan Cancer Support last year.

Bridget Hill, Macmillan Fundraising Manager for South, Mid and East Devon said: "Because of all your support, in 2015 Macmillan was able to commit £310,686 in Devon, helping to support over 35,000 people living with or beyond cancer locally. ‘Colour in Keith’ raises £365 for Exeter Foundation

A member of RGB Building Supplies’ Exeter team has raised a fantastic £365 for the Exeter Foundation by dying his hair a wonderful shade of violet.

For the past few weeks, RGB driver Keith Thomas has been inviting customers to make a donation to his ‘Colour in Keith’ appeal and vote on what colour, or pattern, his hair became.

Exeter-based Rainbow Living is inviting local children and disabled adults to celebrate Mother’s Day by getting involved in a special competition to show their mum how much they love them.

Skydivers wanted for 10,000ft tandem skydive

HeartSWell South West is looking for people to take to the sky and jump 10,000ft from a plane to raise money for heart patients and lifesaving equipment in the Westcountry. The 10,000ft tandem skydive can be completed in several different locations across the UK, the nearest centre being the Honiton Dropzone in Devon. Exeter mum's search for lifesaving donor

A mum-of-three from Exeter is urgently searching for a stem cell donor to help cure her leukaemia. Kate Barnett was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in October 2015.

Following a round of chemotherapy, doctors discovered she also has myelodysplasia, which prevents her bone marrow responding properly to treatment. Choir sings out for ELF

Exeter Philharmonic Choir presented a cheque for £1,875 towards Exeter Leukaemia Fund’s Chevithorne Appeal.

The money was raised from the ‘retiring collection’ of two carol concerts held at Exeter Cathedral last year.

Christine Burns from the choir, said: “We were delighted to hand over this amount, and we’re very grateful, as always, for the generosity of our audiences.”

Charities benefit to the tune of £145,000 thanks to Exeter Foundation

Following a successful year of fundraising, Exeter-based charities and projects are better off to the tune of over £145,000 thanks to donations from the Exeter Chiefs’ official charity, the Exeter Foundation.

Some £97,534.34 was given to projects who had applied for funds from the Exeter Foundation, including £10,000 towards a play area at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s Bramble Ward, £25,000 for a new hydrotherapy pool at Vranch House and a £1,500 contribution for a new Volunteering in Health minibus.
