Bluebird Care, an award winning at-home care provider in Exeter and East Devon have announced the launch of a new Community Grant scheme.

Weekly rep returns to the Manor Pavilion Theatre in Sidmouth next week, when The Summer Rep Season 2015 opens with a new production of Noel Corward’s Hay Fever from Thursday 25 June to Wednesday 1 July 2015.

Anyone for outdoor table tennis?

Anyone for table tennis? People are going batty in the parish of East Budleigh with Bicton now they have their own outdoor table.

The new table has come about after developers who built two new homes in the parish gave £3,450 to fund a sports facility in the community, as part of a Section 106 legal agreement with East Devon District Council.

In a joint project between the district and parish councils, parishioners were asked what they would like to see in the village and two proposals came forward. Around 130 people in the parish voted on the proposals and the new table...

Take a voyage of discovery along the River Axe with new Canoe Safari events being held this summer by East Devon District Council's Countryside team.

Qualified instructors from the Axe Vale Canoe Club lead the guided trips, along with our Countryside rangers, who will share their knowledge of the river's wildlife.

To complete the perfect summer evening experience, there will be a riverside picnic included after the safari.

The next networking event of the 373 Group on July 2 looks set to offer inspiration and advice for SMEs in Mid and East Devon.

The Creation Station founder Sarah Cressall will be giving her take on how to achieve success without losing yourself. Sarah founded her franchise business, which focuses on nurturing creativity in children, after she realised parents needed support to enjoy creative time with their children. 13 years down the line, her company has over 80 franchisees and has won many awards, encouraging many other mums to build up their own businesses.

Bluebird Care launches community grant scheme

The Bluebird Care Grant scheme has been created to provide local community and volunteer groups much needed funds so they can continue to perform the fantastic work they do.

William and Sara Flint, Directors of Bluebird Care – Exeter and East Devon, are passionate about making a positive difference to people’s lives, be that of their customers, staff or by supporting local community projects.

The £500 Grant will be awarded quarterly and more information can be found here .

Samaritans answer 48,000 calls for help

Some 116 Samaritans volunteers from Exeter, Mid and East Devon branch have answered 47,588 calls, emails and texts for help in the last 12 months.

The figures are being issued to coincide with Volunteers Week from June 1 to June 7, organised to highlight the work of the charity’s volunteers.

Like all Samaritans volunteers across the country these are ordinary people who dedicate time each week to provide a safe space for anyone struggling to cope.

One local volunteer is Sally who, like many, came to Samaritans after a personal experience.

Family fun with woodland crafts

Education rangers from the East Devon District Council Countryside team will be running a Woodland Craft session on Tuesday 26 May between 1 and 3pm at Honiton Bottom Community Nature Reserve.

Activities on offer will include creating natural wooden jewellery, charcoal making on the camp fire, hammering plant flags and clay play.

The event is suitable for all ages, so come along for some creative fun in a beautiful green space. The nature reserve is at the junction of Honiton Bottom Road and Battishorne Way, and there are picnic tables and a natural play trail to enjoy....

Conservative Hugo Swire has been re-elected by 25,401 votes as the MP for East Devon – with a majority of 12,261. This is Hugo Swire’s fourth Parliamentary victory – he first became MP in June 2001, and was subsequently re-elected in May 2005 and May 2010. It is also his largest majority since 2001.

The parliamentary election results for East Devon were declared by the Acting Returning Officer, Mark Williams, at East Devon District Council’s offices at Knowle in Sidmouth at 7.15 a.m. today (Friday 8 May).

New sports activity wall for Honiton

Honiton Town Council and East Devon District Council have worked together to provide Honiton residents with a brand new sports activity wall.

The £15,000 sports wall is due to be put into Allhallows recreation field before the end of June and will be free of charge to users. The wall will have markings and a goal for five-a-side football, basketball or netball and cricket.
