Exeter art lovers are in for a rare treat as an exhibition of original Henri Matisse lithographs has arrived at leading gallery, gloss – Art Exeter.

The iconic French Modernist was one of the most successful artists of the 20th century and was equally accomplished in a range of media including painting, sculpture and fine art prints. He is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp, as one of the three leading artists to revolutionise developments in the plastic arts during his time.

Multiple casualties at Richmond banquet hall shooting

Multiple casualties have been reported at a shooting incident in Richmond, Canada. At least four people have reportedly been taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

The incident is reported to have taken place at the Riverside Banquet Hall and to have been carried out by a single gunman.

Emergency services are attending the scene, and paramedics are treating those who may have been injured.

Eye witnesses also reported a police helicopter hovering overhead.

Body recovered in Tamar during search for Jordan Cobb

Police searching for a missing teenager from Plymouth who jumped from a ferry on New Year's Eve have recovered a body.

At just before 5.00pm this evening, Wednesday 16th January, police received a report of a body in the Tamar River on the Torpoint side of the ferry crossing.

A Ministry of Defence Police launch, together with Coastguards searched the river and at around 5.15pm a body was recovered. Police will now make enquires to establish the identity of the body. People in Devon are being asked to be prepared for the possibility of widespread snow and ice on Friday and over the weekend.

Early forecasts suggest that there is a threat of rain moving in from the South West overnight on Thursday, possibly turning to wintry showers as it hits colder air. With road surface temperatures dropping to -4, ice may also be a hazard.

83-year-old lady mugged and pushed to the floor

Police in Exeter are appealing for information after an 83-year-old lady was mugged after she had just got off a bus and was walking to her home.

The incident occurred between 9.30am and 10.00am this morning, Wednesday 16th January, in Willey’s Avenue, off Alphington Road, Exeter.

The victim was approached as she was walking home, pushed to the floor and had her handbag and contents stolen.

The lady suffered a suspected fractured femur and lacerations to her face and head and was conveyed to the R D & E Hospital for treatment.

Man arrested for possession of smoke grenade

A man from Torquay has been charged with possession of a smoke grenade after he was stopped attempting the enter Plainmoor at the Torquay United v Exeter City match last night (Tuesday 15th January 2013).

The 18-year-old was arrested after he was found to be in possession of the device at about 7.50pm.

He was detained at Torquay Custody Centre before being charged with the offence under the Sporting Events Act 1985.

He was then bailed to appear before South and West Devon MC on 31 January 2013.

Explosion at Syrian University kills 15 civilians

Syrian State media reported that there are casualties after an explosion at the main university in Aleppo.

"15 civilians killed and dozens injured by two explosions that shook the area in between the University Residence and the Architecture Building in the southern part of the Aleppo University. The cause of these explosions is yet unknown" said the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights.

Activists say that Syrian jets bombarded the University, however the Syrian government claims that the explosion was a "terrorist attack". (NewsPoint)

Police seek this man after elderly lady's purse stolen

Police are appealing to the public to help them identify a man who detectives would like to speak to in connection with the theft of a purse, belonging to an elderly lady.

It is understood that the victim, who is from the Teigmouth area, lost her purse on Thursday 6th December.

Police believe the man pictured in the CCTV may have some information that could help their enquiry.

Cash withdrawals and transactions were carried out using the stolen bank cards in Teignmouth and in Torquay.
