Firefighters were called to a report of smoke coming from a house in Durham close in Exmouth. Initially 2 local crews from Exmouth were sent to this incident but when they arrived they found the ground floor of the property engulfed in flames and called for further support. Crews got to work fighting the fire using 2 sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet awaiting the arrival of the third appliance. Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are supporting the British Red Cross plea for more volunteers. So far this year Red Cross volunteers have responded to 122 calls across Devon and Somerset and were on standby during the recent storm which lashed large parts of the South.

Fourth Firefighters strike tomorrow

Fire-fighters will strike across England and Wales for a fourth time tomorrow.

In a four hour walkout between 10am and 2pm members of the Fire Brigades Union will leave their posts over the ongoing pension’s dispute with the government.

As well as industrial action the FBU will hold a ballot of members to decide if to take further industrial action.

Fourth firefighters strike next week

Firefighters across England and Wales have set a date for a fourth strike action on the 13 November.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) will also hold a new ballot to decide if to take further industrial action and what forms they should take.

As in previous actions FBU members will strike for a set hour time period before returning to work.

This strike will take place for four hours between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday 13 November.

Fire minister, Brandon Lewis criticised th move towards further industrial action.

Fire crews called to Exeter H&M

H&M in Exeter was evacuated today after smoke was reported in the premises.

Three fire appliances from Danes Castle and Middlemoor, together with an aerial ladder platform from Danes Castle, attended the incident.

On arrival crews confirmed the shop had been evacuated and set to work investigating the source of the smoke.

The cause of the smoke was found to be a small door heater on the ground floor of the shop which was extinguished by isolating the power supply .

Exeter householders warned to beware of bogus caller

Householders have been warned about a bogus caller in the Exeter area claiming to be from the Fire Prevention Unit.

A white male, about 40 years old, was reported to the police earlier today (23 October) after knocking on the front door of an elderly lady claiming to be from Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and wanted to enter the property.

The householder very wisely did not let the man enter and alerted the matter to the police by calling 101.

Appeal after horse dies in fire

Police are appealing for information following a large barn fire near Newton Abbot. The incident took place at around 10.30pm on Thursday at Rydon Farm, East Ogwell. The barn was an equestrian livery yard which housed 35 horses. One horse died during the fire, whilst three others were rescued by the Fire Service. Police are making enquiries into the cause of the fire. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police on 101, quoting reference JN/13/2453.

Fire crews kept busy over the Bank Holiday

Fire crews were called out to deal with an accident involving a vehicle towing livestock and a motorbike yesterday morning.

Two appliances from Danes Castle and Middlemoor attended the scene at 8.43am and made the vehicles safe.

One fire fighting appliance from Cullompton fire station attended reports of a car on fire outside Mcdonald's restaurant at the Cullompton services at 6.37am today.

Upon arrival, crews found one vehicle well alight.
